Hi Tools = Worlds Largest Machines Ever Built  1st, 2nd & 3rd Place !
See the world's largest/biggest machines ever built on land, on water, under the water, on land-water-ice and on air.
A. World's largest machines on land...

1. Liebherr T 282B: Largest Earth-hauling Truck in the World;

This monster machine Liebherr T 282B is a large earth-hauling dump truck designed in 2004 by a German manufacturer and became the largest earth-hauling truck in the world. The top level model is driven by a 10.5 ton, 90 liter diesel engine, producing 3650 horsepower (2700 kW).
Features
Weight: empty - 203 tons; maximum capacity - 365 tons; maximum operating weight - 592 tons
Length: 14.5 m long
Height: 7.4 m tall
Wheelbase: 6.6 m
Top Speed: 40 mph or 65 kph
Costs: US$3.5 M

2. Bagger 288: World's Largest Digging Machine;

This machine is the largest digging machine in the world. The bucket-wheeler excavator named Bagger 288 (Excavator 288) is built by the German company Krupp. More specifically, it is a mobile strip mining machine. It is the largest tracked vehicle in the world at 13,500 tons. However, Bagger is powered from an external source and is more correctly described as a mining machine which can be moved, while the crawler-transporter was built as a self-powered, load-carrying vehicle.
Features
Height: 95 m tall
Length: 215 m long
Weight: 13,500 tons

3. Crawler-Transporter: 2nd Largest Tracked Vehicle in the World;

The Crawler-Transporter is a tracked vehicle used to transport the Saturn V rocket, the Saturn IB rocket during Skylab and Apollo Soyuz, and now the Space Shuttle. It was designed by Bucyrus International and built by the Marion Power Shovel Co. at a cost of US$ 14 million each. When they were built, they were the largest in the world. The German Bagger 288 excavator is now the largest tracked vehicle in the world.
Features
Height: 20 ft or 6.1 m to 26 ft or 7.9 m
Length: 131 ft or 40 m
Width: 114 ft or 35 m
Weight: 2400 tons 2,700 short tons or 2,400,000 kg; 5,400,000 lb

CFD - CASE STUDY:

Problem Statement

The main purpose of a ductless mechanical ventilation systems for a car park in a fire situation is to achieve acceptable level of fire safety requirements within the enclosure.

Challenge

It is assumed that a car catches fire in the car park and the fire size grows to a size of 4MW and continues to burn for 20mins. During this time the ductless MV system must ensure that the smoke temperature and visibility at a height of 1.7m from the floor level are ≤ 250°C and ≥ 5m respectively. A sensitivity study also needs to be considered to show the impact of one group of jet fan failure nearest to the fire.

Solution

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) fire simulation was used to model a 4MW car fire in the car park for 20mins. The CFD results will be used to predict the flow field, visibility and temperature at average human head level of height 1.7m. This is to establish how effectively the ventilation system can manage the smoke in the event of a fire.

Results

The CFD study predicts that the there are no significant stagnation zones within the car park. The visibility within the car park is at least 10m and the temperature is less than 100oC at 1.7m above the floor. The region where the temperature is more than the critical limit is only a small region around the fire, which is expected. Thus, the ventilation system for the car park seems to be adequate.

Hi Industrial Fan Efficiency Tips! "Go Green.!"

Hi Industrial Fan Efficiency Tips! "Go Green.!"

Taking simple steps to minimize the fan’s negative impact can make a tremendous difference on a facility’s energy efficiency… and bottom line.

Hi Five Simple Steps:

  1. Correctly size your fans. Correctly sized fans are critical to efficiency.  If the system resistance curve is not accurately predicted, fan performance/operating efficiency is likely to suffer:  Too little flow rate leaves the system unable to operate at peak loads, while oversized fans will result in unstable operation.
  2. Industrial Fan - Impeller Tip Out
    Changing the tips on the impeller can create significant energy savings.
    To tip or not to tip.Tipping or de-tipping impellers are good alternatives for improving fan efficiency.  A fan that is being dampened by 40% at peak loads is an excellent candidate for de-tipping.  Conversely, if your fan is not providing enough power, adding tips will increase the overall pressure-generating capacity.
  3. Install or upgrade to the most effective blade. Changing blade design can dramatically improve fan efficiency and capacity.  At one facility, retrofitting a new backward curved impeller into the existing radial blade housing created over $200,000 in energy savings in the first year – creating a one year ROI.  Additionally, many electric networks offer incentives for power savings, making the ROI even better.

    Industrial Fan Efficiency
    Blade efficiency varies considerably depending on the application.
  4. Make it adjustable. For variable speed operation, inverter duty electric motors with adjustable frequency drives minimize losses with four to one turndowns.
  5. Request a Draft System Assessment. Draft system assessments, including field flow testing and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), can identify fan performance issues and serve as a guide for implementing changes that will maximize fan efficiency and reduce energy costs.

Hi HVAC System Description.

Hi HVAC System Description:

HVAC (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or, occasionally, "aitch-vak") is an initialism/acronym that stands for "heating, ventilation, and air conditioning". HVAC is sometimes referred to as "climate control" and is particularly important in the design of medium to large industrial and office buildings such as sky scrapers and in marine environments such as-aquariums, where humidity and temperature must all be closely regulated whilst maintaining safe and healthy conditions within.

The Above YouTube Video Describes the different Types of Modes classifications For Control Types available for a Mechanical Ventilator.

Ventilation Systems Classification:

It is common to classify Ventilation Systems by functions,
Distribution Strategies, Ventilation Principles - or by Combinations of them all.

Classifying by Function

As Mentioned above, It is common to classify a ventilation system by function:
  • Ventilation - Supply and evacuating of air with the main purpose to keep the atmospheric climate according the requirements
  • Climate - Supply and evacuating air with main purpose to keep the temperature and the atmospheric climate according requirements
  • Heating or cooling - Recycling system with the main purpose to supply the building with necessary heat or cooling
  • Combined system - The functions above more or less combined in one system

Classifying by Distribution;

A ventilation system can also be classified by distribution:
  • Centralized - A central plant supplies and extract air to and from the whole building
  • Decentralized - Each room/area of the building has it's own ventilation unit
  • Combined - Both centralized and decentralized systems used

Classifying by Ventilation Principle;

A ventilation system can also be classified by the ventilation principle and air flow:
  • Displacement air flow through the room - CAV (Constant Air Volume) or VAV (Variable air volume
  • Mixed air flow through the room - CAV (Constant Air Volume) or VAV (Variable air volume.

Examples of Ventilation Systems Classifications;

  • Single-Zone Constant-Volume System
  • Single-Zone Constant-Volume System with Reheating
  • Multizone System
  • Induction Unit System
  • Variable-Air-Volume System
  • Dual-Duct System
